Zelma Stafford

Zelma Prater Stafford, 80, of Rankin, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at her home in Rankin.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Rankin with Reverend Randy Bush officiating. Burial will follow in the Rankin Cemetery with arrangements under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Don Rogers, Eddie Hyatt, Wally Johnson, Melvin Longwell, Wiley Grant, and Shannon Branham.

Zelma was born on December 20, 1931 to James Lloyd Prater and Bertha Elizabeth Prater (Hanks) in Vealmore, Texas. She was saved in Big Spring, Texas in 1945. She married William Roger Stafford on May 28, 1952 in Bremerton, Washington, and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Zelma has lived in Rankin since January 1, 1975 and had been member of the First Baptist Church in Rankin since then. She was the Comptroller for the Rankin Hospital District, and retired in 1994. She enjoyed gardening and trips with her sisters and nieces. Zelma also enjoyed keeping her granddaughters for the summers.

Zelma was preceded in death by her parents and six sisters, Ima Burns, Iva Clements, Ruby Spruill, Naomi Shrum, Nina McClinton, and her twin sister, Zelna Mitchell.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, W.R. Stafford; sons, William Randy Stafford, and David Keith Stafford; grandchildren, Wade Stafford, Ashlee Stafford, and Staci Stafford; 4 great grandchildren, Kirsten, Wyatt, and Lillian Stafford, and Brynn Negré; and numerous nieces.

She was a much loved wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
