WILLARD McDANIEL, Sr.

IRAAN: Willard McDaniel, Sr., 93 of Iraan, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2009 in the McCamey Convalescent Center.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 in the Restland Cemetery in Iraan, TX with Reverend Leland Maples officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.

Willard was born on May 3, 1915 in Santa Anna, Texas to W. Claude and Eulah Mae McDaniel. He attended elementary school in Echo, Texas. In 1932, Willard moved to Iraan where he had jobs as a muleskinner and pumper. He married Tilda Tennison on February 12, 1936. In the late 1940's, Willard started his own pumping contract service. In 1955 the family moved to Iraan where Willard was active in the Lions Club; served as Mayor from 1974 to 1977. He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce where he was voted man of the year. He was the founder and developer of Alley Oop Park. Willard served as president of Iraan State Bank; and he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Iraan.

Willard was preceded in death by his wife, Tilda; and two brothers, J. Brice McDaniel, and Woodrow McDaniel.

He is survived by his son, Vearl McDaniel and his wife Sandra of Meadowlakes, TX; one grandson, Darren McDaniel and his wife Heather of Cedar Park, Texas; a granddaughter, Ashley Beviacqua and her husband Ryan of Houston, Texas; three great grandchildren, Marlee McDaniel, Megan McDaniel, and Sophia Beviacqua; and one brother, W. C. McDaniel, Jr. of San Angelo.
He is also survived by his devoted special friend, George Anna Prather of McCamey and her loving family.

Willard was known to be a very generous and giving man and will be truly missed by all family and friends.
