VINA MAE McADEN

RANKIN: Vina Mae McAden, 98 of Brownwood, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

Funeral services were held at 2:00pm on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Rankin. Officiating the services were Reverend Jennifer Kelley, Pastor at the First United Methodist Church, and Reverend Alan Speed, a former Kindergarten student, of Jal, New Mexico. Pallbearers were grandsons: T. L. McAden, Jim Bob McAden, Spencer Marshall, Matthew Marshall, Tre McDonald, and Juan Duran; and son-in-laws, Phil Marshall, and James McDonald. Burial followed in the Rankin Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.

Mrs. McAden was born on August 25, 1909 in Salado, Texas to B A and Ollie Mae Raymer. At an early age Vina Mae moved to Voss, Texas where she graduated from Voss High school as Valedictorian of her class. While attending McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, she was class favorite and a member of numerous organizations. She married Lynn H. McAden in 1930 in Voss, Texas. Lynn was a Methodist minister in the Southwest Conference; together they served churches in Utopia, Marble Falls, Red Oak, Johnson City, St. Luke's Methodist in Corpus Christi, Mertzon, Rankin, Carrizo Springs, Pharr, and Rock Springs. In 1981, they moved to Brownwood, where they served Blanket and May until his death in 1988.

Vina Mae was a private Kindergarten teacher in Rankin, Carrizo Springs, and Pharr. She was a member of the Garden Club, and numerous woman's clubs in various towns. She was an excellent cook, a wonderful seamstress, teacher, and organizer, but most of all she was a loving wife, mother, and Me Maw, who will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son, Bobby McAden of Fort Worth, Texas; three daughters, Shirley McAden of Dallas, Judy Marshall and her husband Phil of Garland, and Alta McDonald and her husband James of Crane; her sister-in-law, Frances Raymer of Greenbriar, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Tommy McAden and his wife Lisa, Jim Bob McAden and his wife Rachel, Spencer Marshall and his wife Mary Beth, Matthew Marshall, Tre McDonald and his wife Crysti, and Tiffany Duran and her husband Juan; and 13 great-grandchildren.
