Steve Alan Hooper

June 14, 1956 — March 19, 2021

Steve Alan Hooper, age 64, born June 14, 1956 in Crane, Texas passed away Friday March 19th, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his mother Nita Rhodes Hooper, sister Judy Hooper, Grandparents Marvin and Emma Hooper, and a still born son Dakota Hooper.
He is survived by his dad, Gordon Lester Hooper. Brothers: Danny Hooper and wife Rhonda, and Paul Hooper and wife Julie. His daughters: Brooke Bevel, and her daughters Jaidyn and Paizleigh Gordy, Savannah Hooper, Estevan Sylvas and their daughter Lucy Sylvas, and Destiny Hooper and grand-dog Gadget; many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of friends and neighbors.
Steve was raised in Crane, graduating from Crane High School in 1975. He was voted the “Most Wittiest” in Crane High School his senior year and he was that way his entire life! He attended college at West Texas State in Canyon, Texas for two years.
Steve was a fun Father of 3 beautiful women, Brooke Bevel, Savannah Hooper and Destiny Hooper and “Pops” to three granddaughters, Jaidyn, Paizleigh, and Lucy.
Steve was truly one of a kind and could do anything he set his mind to. His entrepreneur abilities led to several different successful careers in his lifetime. If he wanted to try something new he jumped in with gusto. While at college Steve became an auctioneer with his buddy, Spanky Assiter, and went on to do many auctions together. He was a sign painter, with former wife Linda, in Crane and Odessa for many years. He did many of the historic signs around Odessa. Such as, the Permian Panther sign at the practice field, the beautiful sandblasted Robin Rutherford sign, as well as repainting the Busby’s Bowling sign to the now Diamond Bowling Lanes. Steve was incredibly creative and designed his own florescent advertising signs and sold many of them. He was a true entertainer. He wanted to learn how to make balloon animals, so he made friends with some professional clowns and learned to make balloon animals and did parties and made money at it, while taking and teaching the girls along for the fun! He then decided to purchase a limousine and go into business driving limos. His girls loved it and always felt special when he picked them up from school in his limo. In 2008 Steve, with partner Lonnie Lawrence, started AmeriFlush in Odessa Tx, a sanitation company that serves the oilfield in Odessa and the surrounding areas. In 2020, at age 64, Steve went to barber school in Hobbs New Mexico and then opened a barber shop in Jal, New Mexico. He was very proud of his shop, also known as the Black Sheep barber shop. There was absolutely nothing that he couldn’t achieve! Steve spent every single day working hard for his girls and always put them before himself. His girls were his pride and his motivation.
Steve was an amazing artist and musician. He played the bass guitar, upright bass, fiddle, and guitar - all by ear. He played in the band Mariah and sat in with Jerry Dugan and with many other bands around West Texas.
Steve always had a joke, made people smile and laugh with his dry wit and sometimes sarcastic, strangely, funny humor that only “Hoop” could get away with. Everyone who knew Steve can come up with many unclean or crazy, funny sayings or phrases he would say or call them as a term of endearment or to make them laugh. He could make friends with anyone that he met and had many lifelong friends.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday March 25th at 4 pm at the Crane cemetery, followed by a family visitation inside the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral home in Crane, TX.
