McCAMEY: Royce Payton Burnett, 86 of McCamey, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Crane Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
No Services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Royce was born on December 16, 1923 in Holder, Texas to Louie and Nettie Burnett. He had lived in McCamey since 1938. Royce was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army Air Force. While serving, he had the privilege to be the head electrician on "FI FI".
Royce married Sonya Burch on June 7, 1951 in McCamey. He was a retired self employed electrician. Royce was an avid "rock hound"; loved to fish, and was a coin collector. He served as a director for the Security State Bank for 20 years. Royce was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sonya Burnett; a son, Bart Wayne Burnett and his wife Diana; two daughters, Debra Dian Burnett Peterson and her husband Pete, and Lesa Gail Burnett; a sister, Dorothy Marie Burnett Bailey; 2 grandsons, Critt Peterson, and Shay Peterson and his wife Sarah; and 2 great granddaughters, Jadii and Alisha Peterson.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
