Robert “Bob” Baker, 88 of McCamey, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the East Side Baptist Church in McCamey with Reverend Murray Sauders officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Robert Day Jr., Shawn Day, Guy Day, John Slaton Jr., Carl Slaton, and Daniel Slaton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dave White, Clint White, Basil White, Steven Barker, Joshua Hines, Jacob Hines, Clay Hines, Christopher Day, Caleb Day, Kody Day, Kasey Day, Hunter Hines, Holder Hines, Peyton Hines, Landon Hines, Tyson Jones, Trenton Jones, Tandon Jones, Caleb Slaton, Caden Slaton, Jon Mykel Slaton, Clint Day, and Kyle Day.

Bob was born on July 31, 1923 in Elgin, Oklahoma to W.T. and Addie Baker. Bob served 21 years in the Army, and spent 4 years during WWII fighting for his country. He served as honor guard for 4 presidents, and has numerous metals. Bob married Maye Harris Slaton on July 28, 1973 in Iraan. He has lived in McCamey for the past 6 years, moving from Iraan. He retired from the Pecos Country as Park Manager. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Iraan.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by his wife Maye Harris Baker of McCamey; a son, John Slaton of Pleasant Farms; three daughters, Billie Sue White of Tucson, AZ, Beverley Day of McCamey, and Janet Barker of Levelland; two sisters, Margaret Valdez of Escondido, California, and Helen Corona of Roanoke, VA; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Bob will be greatly missed by those who loved him. But we have peace knowing he is at home, safe in the arms of his heavenly father.
