Michael Ray Smith

Michael Ray Smith, 44, of Rankin, passed away in the line of duty on Friday, June 8, 2012, in Upton County.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Park Building in Rankin. Burial will follow in the Rankin Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
Michael was born on August 13, 1967 in Odessa, Texas. He graduated from Permian High School in 1986. He married Bobbie Jo Gober on March 5, 2001 in Odessa. Michael was a Deputy Sheriffs officer for Upton County and had worked there for past two and a half years. He had also worked for Ector and Howard County Sheriff's Departments. Michael loved his job. He was a great husband and he loved his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Ross Smith on August 9, 2001.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie Smith of Rankin; his daughter, Megan Smith of Rankin; his three sons, Joshua Smith of Rankin, Michael Andrew Smith of Deridder, LA, and Ian Smith of Lufkin, TX; his mother, Judy Smith of Odessa; his brother, Jeff Smith and his wife Lori of Odessa; his niece, Katelyn Smith of Odessa; and one granddaughter, Bethany Madison Smith of Big Spring; and several aunts; uncles; and his beloved family at the Upton County Sheriff's Office.
