Maye Baker

Maye Harris Baker 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 6, 2014. Maye was born August 23, 1921, in Quitman, Arkansas but lived in Enola, Arkansas with her parents John Lester Harris and Audra Pearl Bates Harris.

Maye moved to West Texas in 1947. She moved to Iraan, Texas in the late sixties. She married Robert Baker on July 31, 1973. She was a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Iraan.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Baker; parents John and Audra Harris; son Monroe Slaton, Jr.; daughter Gail Kennedy Lynch; brothers Arnold Harris, Cecil Harris, Ray Harris and Erbie Harris; sisters Wilma Tucker, Alma Brewer, Trudence Staggs, and Doice Slaton; and grandson Brandon Day.

May is survived by sons John Slaton and wife Janice of Odessa, Texas; and Eddie Kennedy of Artesia, New Mexico; daughters Billie Sue White of Tucson, Arizona, Beverly Day and husband Robert of McCamey, Texas, Janet Barker and husband Dough of Levelland, Texas, Susan Price and husband Barry of Midland, and Darlene McGovern and husband James of Odessa, Texas.

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at the East Side Baptist Church in McCamey, Texas, with Reverend Earnest Wall officiating. Interment followed at Resthaven Cemetery in McCamey, Texas, entrusted to Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home. Pallbearers were grandsons Dave White, Clint White, Basil White, Robert Day Jr., Shawn Day, Christopher Day, Guy Day, John Slaton Jr., Carl Slaton, Daniel Slaton and Steven Barker.

Honorary Pallbearers were great grandsons Joshua Hines, Jacob Hines, Clay Hines, Clint Day, Kyle Day, Kody Day, Kasey Day, Caleb Day, Caleb Slaton, Cadence Slaton, Tyson Jones, Trenton Jones, Tandem Jones and Jon-Mykel Johnson.

Maye’s family would like to thank everyone at the McCamey Nursing Home and Hospital for their loving care.
