Marie Smithson

December 2, 1919 — November 13, 2016

Anne Marie Westerman Smithson was born Dec 2, 1919, in Victoria, Texas, to Walter Byron Westerman and Anne McKenzie Westerman. She lived 96 years, 11 months and 11 days of this earth and began eternity in heaven November 13, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Gibson Smithson, her parents, her brother William Walter Westerman and wife Nell, her sister Bettye Alida Daniel and husband Frank, many cousins and close friends.

Marie graduated from Ft. Stockton High School at age 16, attended Sul Ross for a time and then worked until she married Jack Smithson of Stanton, Texas. She then devoted her life to her husband and the raising of 6 children. A life of 96+ years would take pages just to summarize, however her life can best be described by two words: SHE LOVED

SHE LOVED her Lord and Savior and her church family. She looked forward to the week at Pecos River Encampment every summer.

SHE LOVED her family. She loved being a part of every activity of her children and was room mother, den mother, band and cheerleader and sports mother, and second mother to many of her children's friends. As for grandchildren and great grandchildren she had a very special bond with each one.

SHE LOVED people. She spent time with friends in Garden Club and Bridge Club. She loved just sitting with friends around the kitchen table. She loved swimming, and playing games from tennis and softball in her younger years, to '42', Chicken-foot, and Scrabble in the later years.

SHE LOVED being outside enjoying God's creation. Whether it was swimming in the stock tank and feeding calves at the ranch, or in her yard watering her beautiful roses. When she was inside, she was looking outside to watch the clouds and the birds at the feeder.

In her last years she loved to watch the Tennis channel or listen to gospel music. SHE LOVED the frequent visits from her family, especially when those visits included a Hershey bar or Daddy's fudge!

All her days SHE LOVED, with all of her heart SHE LOVED.............and was so very much loved in return.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children John Day Smithson of Mission Viejo, Ca; Sue Powell and her husband Jerry of Grady, NM; Thomas Derrol Smithson and his wife Debra of Ackerly, Tx; Boyce Clinton Smithson and his wife Kathy of Granbury, Tx; Leta Jo Thomas and her husband Bill of Helotes, Tx; Lori Ann Turk and her husband Zane of Turk Ranch, Dryden, Tx. 15 beloved grandchildren; 21 very special great grandchildren.
