Laura Amacker Eaves

Laura Eaves' exciting 89 year adventure has come to an end. She passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023 with family members by her side after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Laura's creed was kindness and her currency was friendship. Her generous nature touched the lives of all that knew her.

Laura was born to Robert and Velma Amacker in 1934 in San Angelo, TX. She was a gifted artist who loved to draw horses and paint. She met her husband, Robert "Bob" Eaves in a geology class at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, TX in 1954. She later graduated from the University of Texas with a Sociology degree.

Laura and Bob had two daughters, Janet and Carolyn. Bob's work for NASA took the family to Florida, Antigua, Bermuda, Laurel, MD, Guam and then back to Bermuda. In 1974, Laura and Bob returned to Laura's family ranch outside of Midland, TX where they lived for 45 years. Laura loved the ranch and she took great pride in her gardening, nursing orphaned sheep and goats back to health and adopting stray cats. For many summers, she and her sister, Elaine, created pasture art from sheets of plywood. They did life-sized cut outs of cowboys, wolves, coyotes, buzzards, aliens and African animals. They put them along the highway but the art became so popular that people started stealing them! Laura was also a voracious reader and her time at the ranch allowed her to read most of the books in the local library.

Laura's husband, Bob, died in 2015 after 61 years of marriage. Laura's family moved her to The Auberge Memory Care facility in Bee Cave, TX where she lived for 8 years. She found her purpose in befriending new residents and just listening to their stories. Laura's family will be forever grateful for the professional and loving care provided by her care givers - especially Peace Nwokogba.

Laura is survived by her two daughters. Janet Stinus (Joe) and grandchildren Justin Stinus (Elizabeth) and Jaclin Stinus. Her daughter, Carolyn Pearson (Craig) and grandchildren Chelsea Johnston (Nathan) and Clayton Pearson (Carla). Laura is survived by 6 great grandchildren: Caroline Johnston, Cooper Johnston, Caleb Johnston, Colter Pearson, Callie Pearson and Cody Pearson.

Laura is also survived by her sisters, Elaine Bridges and Carolyn Duncan (John) and her brother, Kent Amacker (Janis).

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in Crane, TX with Reverend Ted Creech officiating.
