Kerry Von âK.V.â Murphy, 70, of Crane, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at his home.
K.V. was born on January 11, 1945, in Odessa, Texas. He grew up on a sheep ranch 18 miles from Crane in Upton County. K.V. was the Valedictorian of his graduating class in 1963. K.V. married the love of his life, Alana Hodge on March 21, 1965 in Crane, and this year they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
K.V. worked for Getty 15 years, and for Texaco for 15 years. He and Alana worked together for 11 years contract pumping until they decided to retire. K.V. enjoyed hunting, collecting guns, and flying; he even built his own airplane with the help of his son Shawn which they called the Kit Fox.
K.V. loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandsons Stephen and Nathan. Together they climbed Buck Mountain in Ruidoso on a hunting trip. He was also an active member of the First Baptist Church in Crane for many years.
K.V. is survived by his wife, Alana Murphy of Crane; his son, Shawn Murphy and his wife Stephanie of Eunice, NM; two grandsons, Stephen and Nathan Murphy, both of Eunice; a sister, Joyce Dawn Beard and her husband Rex of Hobbs, NM; and two brothers, Clayton Alton Murphy and his wife Marsha of Alto, NM, and Byron Edwin Murphy and his wife Lana, of Grapevine, TX.
The family will be receiving friends at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in Crane on Thursday, July 30, 2015, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 31, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Crane with Reverend David Evans officiating. Burial will be held at the Iatan Cemetery in Mitchell County, Texas. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
