Jose M. Rodriguez, 91, of Crane, passed away on Sunday, January 01, 2012 at his home in Crane.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ceasar Lopez officiating. Burial will follow in the Crane County Cemetery.

Jose was born on May 1, 1920 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Jose and Flora Muñiz Rodriguez. He began his working career mining and was proud to be a part of helping build what is known today as the Chihuahua al Pacífico Railroad. He learned to use dynamite to blast out tunnels for the railroad to be built. Soon after, he was then working as a ranch hand. Jose was a real cowboy, who enjoyed raising cattle and riding horses.

Jose then moved his entire family to the United States in 1957 and he went to work for Stahmann's Farms in New Mexico, and worked there for 20 years. He then began working as a migrant farmer with Basic American Foods in California, and retired there after 25 years of service.

Jose moved his family to Crane in 1979. He was member of the Iglesia Nueva Vida in Crane. Jose was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jose Rodriguez; and a sister, Ignacia Pinela.

He is survived by his wife, Juana Rodriguez of Crane; seven daughters, Irma Muñiz of Albuquerque, NM, Velia Najera of LaMesa, NM, Sylvia Rodriguez of San Miguel, NM, Sandra Arroyo of Colorado, Flora Esparza of Crane, Aurelia Cisneros of Austin, and Irene Chavez of Fort Hood; three sons, Ernesto Rodriguez of El Paso, Felix Chavez of Crane, and Aristeo Chavez of El Paso; a brother, Guillermo Rodriguez of New Mexico; 46 grandchildren; 84 great grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren.
