James Ronald (Jim) Stevens died September 17, 2015 at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, in Plano Texas.
Born April 13, 1944 to Thomas James (TJ) Stevens and Annie Sue Clanton Stevens in Winters Texas.
Jim grew up on a farm. He learned the value of hard work and family.
After graduating Morton High School Jim attended South Plains Jr College in Levelland Texas. Served in the United States Army October 1966 thru September 1968 serving 1 year in Viet Nam. After returning home he began his career in the oil and gas industry that lasted 45 years. He retired from Marathon Oil Company and again from Southern Union Gas in 2009. Upon retiring keeping busy with family and friends. He and his wife mowed lawns and he was a previous member of the city council.
Jim and Jeanne married January 22, 1977 for 38 wonderful years. They worked as a team throughout life and lived in McCamey for 30 years.
Jim was a Christian man that had a servant’s heart. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was loved by many children, dogs and related well with the elderly. He was like his Mother in that he never met a stranger but was also like his Dad in that he was a private man. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, woodworking and reading.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday September 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Resthaven Cemetery in McCamey Texas with Kenn Carr officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
He is preceded in death by parents T J and Sue Stevens and brother Allen.
Survived by his wife Jeanne, daughter Joylene Tompkins and husband Kelly of San Angelo Texas. Sisters Joyce Carr and husband Kenn of Sudan Texas. Karen Williams and husband Bodie of San Angelo Texas. Brother Mike Stevens and wife La Verne of Idalou Texas and mother-in-law Zonell Cook of Brownwood, Texas, one grandson Aaron Tompkins as well as a Niece and Nephews, Uncles and Aunts.
