Helen Donowho

December 12, 1919 — November 15, 2014

Helen Joey Wiesen Donowho of Sheffield, Tx passed away Saturday, Nov. 16 at Senior Care at Meadow Creek Nursing Center in San Angelo, Tx at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 3 days.
She was born in Dallas, Tx to Ollie Elnora Simmons and Joseph Frederick Wiesen on December 12, 1919. She moved to Ranger, Tx and spent her school years there. She graduated from Ranger High School. She married Wilbur Walton (Bill) Donowho on June 4, 1938.
Preceding her in death are one infant son, Billy Joe Donowho; her parents, Joe & Ollie Wiesen, 3 brothers, Homer of Denison, Bob of Odessa and Fred Wiesen of Ranger. Her husband Bill Donowho of Sheffield passed away April 26, 1997.
She and Bill moved to Sheffield in September 1940 with a 2 month old baby, Helen Jean and spent almost all of their remaining years around Sheffield. Bill went to work for H.C. Noelke, Sr. Helen had never lived in the country and they lived 10 miles south of Sheffield on a ranch with no electricity or any city amenities. They spent a short time in Midland, cutting up tank batteries, until they went back to work for H.C., Sr. in Sheffield. They lived in San Angelo on the Noelke farm, waiting for their child, Pat, to be born for a short while and then back to Sheffield. They moved into town in 1951 and Bill continued leasing a ranch and working in the oilfield (during the drought of the 50s). He also had a windmill service in later years. Helen was a stay-at-home mom and fed anyone that showed up at mealtimes. We lived in a small home but it seemed to expand as needed.
She loved people and thought she would just be everyone's Granny and that is what she was known as.
