FEDERICO (FRED) "BIBO" MARTINEZ
McCAMEY: Federico (Fred) "Bibo" Martinez, 89 of McCamey, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Iraan General Hospital
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Apostolic Church in McCamey with Reverends Luis Rodriguez and Abel Torres officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery in McCamey with arrangements under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Fred was born in Mertzon, Texas on February 8, 1920 to Abraham and Paula Martinez. He was in the U.S. Army, serving 4 years in W.W. II fighting for our country, stationed in Rome, Italy for three years. He had a lot of "pride" in doing that honor for our country.
Coming back to McCamey in 1949, he found his wife, Elidia (Lilly) Sanchez Martinez of Fort Stockton, Texas. They were married for 60 years, and had 7 children.
Fred is survived by his wife, Elidia (Lilly) Martinez of McCamey; their only daughter, Viola Rodriguez and her husband Luis of McCamey; six sons, Steve Martinez of Odessa, Leroy Martinez and his wife Gregoria of McCamey, Noah Martinez and his wife Dora of Odessa, Hector Martinez of McCamey, Danny Martinez and his wife Lupe of McCamey, and Arthur Martinez of San Angelo. Two sisters, Magdalena Carrasco of Crane, and Maria Pina of Rankin.
14 grandchildren which to them he was "Bibo". His grandchildren are Isaac and Mimi Martinez of Odessa, Helda and Veronica Martinez of McCamey, Christy Martinez and Hector Martinez, Jr. of Odessa, Delilah Martinez and Lucas Martinez of Tampa Florida, D.J. and Marcos Martinez of McCamey, Luis, Romie, Levi, and Rebecca Rodriguez of McCamey; and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Paula Martinez; and three brothers, Filimon Martinez, Arturo Martinez, and Alexandro Martinez.
He worked for the Texas Highway Department for many years until his retirement in the 1980's. Fred worked with one of his supervisors Roy Dean Wallace of Texarkana, Texas for many years, and they remained friends even after his move to East Texas. He was really a very "special" friend to him. After his retirement he was a full time barber, until his illness. He was a longtime member of the Apostolic Church since 1955, having served in many positions in the church.
He was a witty, good-natured, happy, and never met a stranger.
A special thanks to Dr. Garcia and the nurses at the Iraan General Hosptial; especially to Lupe Martinez, and Alice Rodriguez. God Bless everyone in a special way.
Bibo will be missed by his family, lots of friends, but never forgotten. The good memories will always be there until we meet again on that glorious day.
