Eusebio Martinez

September 13, 1943 — October 21, 2013

On October 21, 2013, Eusebio Martinez passed away at the Hospice House in Odessa, TX, surrounded by family. He was known as Chevo and Joe to his family, friends and co-workers. He was born on September 13, 1943 in Laredo, TX, to Delores and Quirino Martinez. In his earlier years, Joe worked as a cowboy at the Callaghan Ranch in Webb County where he would meet his future wife.
In 1968 Joe moved to Crane, TX, seeking opportunity to work in the oil industry and a few years later would ask Ruby Martinez to be his wife. They married in Laredo, then she moved to Crane and together they started their life which would consist of 42 years of marriage. He worked for Guard Trucking as a supervisor for 15 years, at Pride Petroleum Services and then at Key Energy Services until his retirement. Those that knew him knew of the hardworking, yet stubborn man that was persistent in everything he did. These traits were evident in the way he lived up until the end.
Upon his retirement, Joe loved spending time with his grandchildren; Dakoda DeLao (age 15, the golden boy), Ryan DeLao (age 10, the smart yet mischievous one), Michael DeLao, Matthew DeLao, and Luka Galindo (age 5, the little tiger). He was also looking forward to meeting his grandson, little Chevito, due in November. He loved history, Westerns, all types of music, his dogs and watching his grandsons play sports.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife; three daughters & family, Cindy Martinez & Dion DeLao, June Ella Martinez & David Galindo, and Talia Martinez & Louis Adame; five and soon-to-be six grandsons; one sister, Micaela & Blas Flores; one brother, Raúl Martinez; two nephews, Blas Flores & family and Raúl Martinez; one niece, Araceli Nieto & family.
A rosary was held at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home at 7:00 pm on Friday (10/25) and the memorial service/mass was held at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Saturday (10/26) in Crane. Donations can be made to the Hospice House at 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, TX 79761.
We will miss our beloved husband, daddy, grandpa, tio and sarcastic storyteller.
