EDGAR GARVIN "TED" WALKER

RANKIN: Edgar Garvin "Ted" Walker went home to be with his Lord July 21, 2009.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Rankin, Texas with Pastor Randy Bush officiating. Burial will follow at the Rankin Cemetery. Pallbearers will be great grandsons, Cole Porter, Braden Porter, Cory Porter, Ryan Dupriest, Tyler Dupriest, Laramie Coggan, Kyle Coggan, Christian Coggan, And Bryan Wilson.

Ted was born July 3, 1922, the youngest son of V.C. Walker Sr., and Leta Bell Edwards Walker in Cross Plains, Texas, where he was raised. He joined the navy December 20, 1942, and was a member of the CB's. He was sent to the Southwest Pacific and was discharged on February 26, 1946. After his discharge, Ted attended and graduated from North Texas University. He received a BS degree in Secondary education with a specialty in math and science. He began his teaching career in Baird, Texas where he taught math and science, and coached basketball, and assisted coaching football. He then moved to Colorado City, Texas and later to Rankin, Texas where he met the love of his life, Johnnie Ruth Hill Gary. They were married August 15, 1956. He later became junior high principal for Rankin ISD, a position he held until his retirement.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Ruth, his parents, V.C. and Leta Bell Walker, two brothers, S.A. Walker and Clyde Walker Jr., Two sisters, Mildred Browning and Ava Childers, and a step son, James Wallace Gary.

He is survived by his step daughter, Nancy Tierce and husband Charles; his step daughter-in-law, Carol Gary; four granddaughters, Sherry Porter and husband Bruce; Sandra Wilson and husband Allen; Christy Dupriest and husband Gary; and Tracy Coggan and husband Kent.
He is survived by 13 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ted and his step son Wallace Gary joined the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed the time they spent in the lodge and the wonderful journey.
