Don Gross, 66, of Crane, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, in Pecos County, Texas.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Crane with Reverend David Evans officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.

Don was born on March 12, 1948, in Brownfield, Texas, to J.B. and Lela Gross. Don was a graduate of Andrews High School. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having served in the US Army as a Special Forces Airborne Ranger from 1967 to 1970. Don married the love of his life, Patrena Lee on May 17, 1975 in Andrews. They moved to Crane in 1987. Don had worked in the oilfield for many years, holding various positions with the last being a pumper and consultant.

Don enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, and NASCAR. He loved his job and enjoyed spending time with his friends drinking coffee at the café. However, his family was truly his pride and joy. Don loved spending time with his three boys and his grandchildren. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Crane.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Wayne Elmore.

He is survived by his loving wife Patrena of Crane; three sons, Alton and his wife Keila of Mansfield, TX, Darren and his wife Charlee of League City, TX, and Corey of Midland; a brother, Dale and his wife Ann of Comanche, TX; his grandchildren, Jonathan, Kristine, Matthew, Jessee, and Jonathan “Taco”; his father and mother-in-law, Dick and Leona Lee of Andrews; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
