Dixie Weatherby, age 80, of Crane, TX went to be with the Lord and Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 in Odessa Medical Center Hospital.
Dixie was born October 20, 1931 in Mineola, Texas to the late Artie and Vera Shaver. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Crane and a very caring nurse of Crane Memorial Hospital for many years. She was devoted to cooking for the prisoners during the years her husband, Raymond Weatherby, served as Sheriff of Crane County. Some prisoners enjoyed her cooking so much, that they would often want to return to jail just for her meals. She was a very loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and nana to her family and a wonderful friend to many. We lost a great lady and heaven gained another precious angel. She will truly be missed by many.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, Artie and Vera Shaver, sisters, Jean Thurman, Doris Ellison, Iris Wood, and grandchildren, Tracy and Wesley Phelps.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Raymond Weatherby of Crane, children, Sherry Weatherby of Lubbock, Beverly Farmer and husband John of Crane, Penny Weatherby of Odessa and Ray Weatherby and wife Tammie of Midland. Grandchildren, Amy Ramirez and husband Eddie, Blazer Phelps and wife Jen, Scott Farmer, Tamra Pate and husband Kevin, Tasha Weatherby and fiancée Rudy. Great grandchildren, Jaedyn Weatherby, Kayla Pate and Paisley Ramirez.
Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Crane, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ron Williams, Randy Scanell, John Sikes, David Thurman, Larry Riddle, and John Daniels. Honorary Pallbearers will be Judge Blue and Freddy Lanning.
