Chief Simpson

June 25, 1935 — January 20, 2015

Chief Simpson, 79, of Crane, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, in Odessa.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Crane with Reverend Kenneth Smarr and Reverend Gayle Bone officiating. Burial will follow in the Crane County Cemetery with arrangements under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.

Chief was born on June 25, 1935, in Tilly, Arkansas. He married Mary Ann Heard on June 30, 1970, in Crane. Chief spent most of his life working years in the West Texas oilfields. He was hardworking, dependable, and fun loving. He loved to laugh and tease the grandkids and tell a good long story. Chief always seemed to look on the bright side.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Ann; and a brother, John Simpson.

Chief is survived by two daughters, Sonja Allmon and her husband Billy of Crane, and Becky Smith and her husband John of Winnsboro; three sons, Ricky Rives and his wife Diane of Crane, Randy Rives and his wife Tammy of Lake Dallas, and Rocky Rives and his wife Bonnie of Monahans; a brother, Winston Simpson of Perryville, AR; one sister, Joyce Rhoads of Little Rock, AR; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
