BOBBY LYNN McADEN
RANKIN: Former Odessa resident Bobby Lynn McAden, 68, died February 12, 2009, at his home in Fort Worth, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at First United Methodist Church of Rankin, Texas, with the Reverend Jennifer Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the Rankin Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane, Texas. Pallbearers are brothers-in-law James McDonald and Phil Marshall and dear friends, Gary Adams, Joe Cooney, Bud Poage, Reuben Ramirez, Bill Waldrop, Winston McAden and Sherman Smith.
Bobby was born January 26, 1941, in Uvalde, Texas, to Methodist Minister Lynn H. McAden and his wife Vina Mae. Throughout his childhood, the McAden family resided in many Texas towns including Utopia, Marble Falls, Red Oak, Johnson City, Corpus Christi, Mertzon, and Rankin.
He attended high school in Rankin, Texas, where he played sports and raised show sheep. He graduated from Rankin High School in 1959 and went on to attend Southern Methodist University as his father had.
Bobby married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Tommie Darlene Workman, on November 28, 1961, in Rankin, Texas. In the early years of their marriage Bobby and Darlene lived in Lewisville before settling in Odessa to raise their two sons. Bobby loved watching his boys play football at Odessa Permian and he continued to be a devoted Mojo fan, holding season tickets for nearly 30 years.
He was an insurance adjustor for 33 years and was a long-time employee of Permian Claim Services Inc. in Odessa. In 2006 he retired and moved to Fort Worth to be near family. In retirement he enjoyed having more time to spend with his mother and sisters and supporting his grandkids in their sporting and school events.
Bobby was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was known for counting down the days until hunting season opened each year. He enjoyed spending time at the family's ranch in Rankin and was also known by his family as a master of the grill. It is no surprise that he passed these traits to his sons.
He is survived by two sons, Tommy McAden and his wife Lisa and children Candice, Caden, and Laney of Southlake; Jim Bob McAden and his wife Rachael and son Greeley of Argyle; three sisters, Shirley McAden of Dallas; Alta McDonald and her husband James of Crane; Judy Marshall and her husband Phil of Garland.
Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, and his father and mother, Lynn and Vina Mae McAden.
